Syllabus Observing, Learning, Creating: Understanding the Natural World

Course Description

From time immemorial, humans have long sought to understand the world around them. Early humans observed the natural world—the changing seasons, animal migration patterns, and the changes in the night sky. These observations led to conclusions based on experience that shaped their understanding of the world, aided survival and led to the creation of new technologies. In this session, we will explore how our ways of knowing have developed over time, examining both the evolution of Western scientific inquiry and other ways of knowing.
