Introduction to Computational Thinking in K-6

In this course, you will learn about computational thinking through a series of activities and resources aimed at developing the skills, understandings and habits of mind associated with computational thinking in your students. You will gain access to all of the activities, recordings and resources necessary to complete the activities presented in your own classroom.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will:

  • define computational thinking and explain its importance in teaching and learning.
  • use the supporting unplugged and plugged computational thinking activities with students.

Format

For each computational thinking skill listed, you will watch videos from the 2019-2020 LIVE Code Broadcasts that break down the activities associated with that skill. Also provided in each section are plugged extension activities that extend the learning as well as the opportunity to self-reflect on each skill area.

Grade Level

This course is suitable for educators teaching Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Estimate Duration

This course should take you 3-4 hours to complete.

Earn your badge

You will have to complete a self-reflection to receive your digital badge. This badge can be added to your professional portfolio.  Completion of this course counts towards the pre-requisites for Let's Talk Science Learning Pathways: Level 1.
